About gas and protests in Ukraine

Currently, the retail price of fuel felt. The price dropped up to 105 U.S. dollars per barrel. It is associated with less concern about possible military conflicts in the Middle East.
Drivers should enjoy long-term downward trend in oil prices and Ukrainians also.
"This is due to the fact that countries such as the United States, which is a major oil consumer, a large amount of its oil consumption fulfilling by shale gas. Currently, a number of vehicles (buses, trucks) in the U.S. are no longer driven by fuel made
from petroleum, but LPG. This reduces the overall demand for oil in the world “, - explained the N. Mačiulis, Swed bank analyst.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich said that the country will reduce purchases of the Russian gas.
It is not clear how Ukraine is going to do, because in order to ensure the supply of gas to the Europe in the Ukraine located stores should be supplied with gas. Ukraine's gas system has been developed during the Soviet era as a common gas supply system. Therefore, Ukraine, collecting gas for their customers from their underground storage in the Western part of the country, collects and gas transit to European consumers.

V. Yanukovich believes that in 2009, signed a contract for the supply of gas is bomb after Ukraine's economic foundations. Under the agreement, Ukraine has to buy Russian gas at one of the highest prices in Europe. It is true, for the transit of gas, Ukraine receives a discount price. But still the economic and human costs are too high. So the economy finds itself in a very difficult position. On one way protesters in the Ukraine are based by economical grounds.
It is therefore understandable anxiety of Russia. Ukraine making problems for Russians gas export to Europe. As well as the anxiety felt in the southern part of Europe. It is quite understandable and South Stream gas traffic building purposes.
Serbia on Sunday launched pipeline South Stream, bringing gas from Russia will be shipped directly to Europe, avoiding disputes over the transit price.
South Stream will be built from Russia through the Black Sea to Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. It will bypass Ukraine, with which Russia relations strained.

The pipeline, which over the year will pump 63 billion cubic meters of gas, will make Serbia an important regional player in the energy sector, as well as ensure a stable gas supply in this former Yugoslav republic and Europe.

Along the Ukrainian government to constantly accompanied by a large debt to Russia for natural gas consuming. In this sense, Russia may push Ukraine or give reword. Given that Putin seeks to restore the previous power in Russia. If Ukraine would sign the Association Agreement with the EU, it would apparently destroy his dream.

It is therefore understandable avoidance of the President of Ukraine to singe the contract. Moreover, he has support in the eastern Ukraine, the center of the industry. Unfortunately companies operating there mainly linked with trade relations to the Customs Union. The signing an association agreement with the EU would have to close them or to make major investments. In this case Putin immediately would terminate relations with Ukraine.

Seen in the ongoing protests and demonstrations irony is that currently Ukraine is Chairman of ESBO. And it does not comply with international commitments for freedom of voice and   assembly.

Ukraine can escape from Russia only by being closer to EU.There is not only policy problems in the Ukraine. Dependency on the Russian gas makes Ukrainian economy week. That is way some Ukrainians are doubt, but the most wants reform.
One of the solutions in energy fields can be by intensifying shale gas extraction as well as the modernization of the industry. Shale gas exploration activities in Ukraine launches two companies, Chevron and Shell. But it is a long process. And it is not possible to see any results today.

Some thoughts on the Ukrainians history

Ukrainian history is difficult to understand for Westerners. Basically Ukraine as a state had short history. It begins with the rise of the Kiev city state for several years in the X century and already these days, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. At all times, the Ukrainian lands were very interesting for the neighbors. Ukraine was destroyed several hundred years by attacks of Tatars, Russian tsar’s false promises, alleged Polish gentry and nobility Lithuanian custody. In the Soviet Union, Ukrainian farmers conceived destruction. What has trigged the greatest famine of the twentieth century in Europe.
According to historian Meilus the current situation in Ukraine is very similar to the
Two Nations Republic and Moscow’s relationship in the XVII century. At that time, one-third of the Ukraine was overtaken by Moscow. Western Ukraine remained in the Polish-Lithuanian state boundaries. Now left side of the Dnepr supports President Yanukovych and opposes approximation towards the EU.Western Ukrainian side is pro EU.
Of course, each side has its own history and assessment of what is common. Pro-Russian side is proud of Cossack leader Bohdan Khmelnytsky, who has taken Ukraine closer to Russia. Western Ukrainians proud of battles won in1362 by the Blue Waters, where was suspended Tatars onslaught to Western Europe. In the 1410 Ukrainians has participated in Zalgeris battle, when Western Europe has supported the Teutonic Ordain. There has taken collapse of the Crusades epic. And the 1621 Chotin battle, there Ukrainians joined against the Ottoman Empire. This battle was largely due to Europe.
Yes; Ukrainians can be proud and they are worthy welcome in EU.
