Viva Roma viva Italia
Hello dear readers I was a little bit away from the web publishing. But now I will take the job. I decided to spice up the site; it will be not only published information and discussion about technology, but also the experience of the trips.
So lest start our journey.
This time is Rome . Why Rome ? Let’s say it is naïve question. Rome is the eternal city; it is the city where all the roads lead. It is currently home to about 2, 7 million inhabitants. It is the capital of the Italy , the country where lives about 60, 5 million people. It is the member of G8, most developed industrial countries. If you would take a look from above, it looks like female boots, maybe so the country is famous for fashion and the shoe industry. Italy is also well kwon for their excellent and distinctive cuisine. Italians can be proud of a rich cultural legacy, perhaps because of that they are in the fifth place among the tourist traffic .Your humble servant has decided to be one of them.
Since I live in Lithuania , we have begun our trip by plane from Vilnius airport. We flu with Wizzair, low cost airlines company, who are interested can take a look in the net page www.wizzair.com. This is a relatively new Hungarian airlines company. They are offering attractive price, company using Airbus planes. Traveling from Vilnius airport to Fumicino airport, located about 30 km from Rome , lasted three hours. It was decided to fly in the late April, because at that time it was warm enough but not too hot. At night time the temperature has felt down up to 10 degrees, but at the day time has reached 25. For the trips around the city it was just a perfect. The trip to the center of Rome by taxi costs 48 euro.
When you arrive from north to south it is an indescribable thing. We had snow by the roadside and in the Rome it was nice green grace. So Rome has embraced with its own warmth and did not let us up to the date of departure. And these growing oranges and lemon along the houses drove me crazy. Before the trip to Rome we had dilemma where to stay in the centre of town or surroundings. We chose hotel located not in the centre. Living in the centre has some pluses. You do not need to take a taxi everything you can reach by foot. But to stay in a villa, which has been a summer residence of the wealthy Romans, this is something else entirely. Thanks to my wife for this discovery.
If you arriving to Rome just for three to days, you have decide what to see. For those who love to travel with tour guide is not valid. Public transport is pretty well organized. If you want to travel in the towns surrounding you can rent a car. If you are staying in the centre it is not necessarily. The traffic on the streets is going according to the rules in southern European cities.
Places to visit
They are located not very far from each other. One of the most gaining popularity and best known is the Coliseum. Its construction started by the emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus. As we know it has taken paces for the performances and competitions and the gladiators fittings. It is the 50 m height building consisted by 80 columns; it was easier to find write location for the audience. They could fill coliseum in the half hour and then to left arena. No doubt that modern arenas builders has drew inspiration from the Roman- Greek expiries. I did not felt expected excitement from the coliseum. It was big surprise and I do not why.
In the little big strange place located Pantheon. Building was built for the religious proposal and several times renovated, but has remained to stay almost unchanged .Most surprising is 43 meters height dome, and sixteen 14 meters column. This is showing Roman Empire power. They first introduced cement and this is has ganged architecture. It is a mixture consisting of crushed stone, bound quicklime and sand. The work was facilitated and speeded. The introduction of the concrete has made possibility to occur arch.
Romans used arches in the buildings construction very often as well as in Pantheon and Coliseum. Only the Romans built thermals, akviadukus, amphitheatres and triumphal arches. Generally we can cal Romans as organizators and planners nation. Some development and innovation they spread to the conquered nations. This planning they introduced to the agriculture also. Speaking about the Rome it is apield as real contras to Roman order. Buildings arranged erratically it has reminded me my hometown Vilnius . They were built not according a single plan. After the big fear Nero began a restorative work in the city. In the centre was built forums and public buildings. It is interesting that with has begun an unconventional meeting place for the lowers. The Forum also had oratorical school; young public servants could affect senate or public at the meetings. After Cicero this activity has began to decline for the emperor was unnecessary political debates.
Perhaps the most memorable place for me in Rome was building on the Capitoline hill. It is dedicated to the first Italian king Viktor Emanuel II. . The entire ensembles build of white marble. Temple covered the goodness Victoria riding on the quadriqas. The structure is 81 meter high and it looks very impressive. Panoramic elevator was added to the structure, allowing visitors to ride up to the roof for 360 degree views of Rome .
If we are talking about Romans religion they did not have religion in the current sense. They had different rituals and it was necessarily to follow them. The aim was to scrupulously complete the agreement with gods and was expected to be repaid of this. The most powerful was Jupiter, but beside his there was hundreds gods. The religious idea and structure dedicate to one god it was unbearable for the Romans population. Intellectuals Romans mentioned this gap, although they showed respect to the public rituals but privately the lei of them. Searching meaning in the life they take attention to the philosophy. Among the Romans spread very fast Stoicism and Epicureanism.
Special future of the Romans was ability to adapt to changing political circumstances and turn on the cults of the other nation in to Romans political system. But clearly there was one exception which said is not one of the religions but is only religion.
If you are tarried and did not want sunny day to go to café or restaurant, there is park located in the St. Angel castle. Emperor Hadrian built it for him self as to be his tomb, this building later was converted into the castle. So it is great place to relax.
And finally we came to the place cold Vatican City . Actually it is the state which is located in the Rome . Only one religion state, if you will not take attention to the Muslim radicals who trying to establish religion states and Tibet , they are under Chinas suppression.
It was Sunday when we have reached Vatican . Police stopped traffic because of crowds of people who was going to St. Peters square. When we come square was full of people. You could see flags from various countries. Through the window Pope greeted people. Romans can boats that they have Vatican , the most influential religious centre. And to be there is very special feeling, feeling a being member of community that experienced only in Rome …
Well I have not been in the Vatican museum, but being in Rome you can not avoid St. Peters basilica.
And it is necessarily to mentioned Italians pizza and pasta.
The Italians gelaterias became meeting places in the evenings, although ice cream is not cheap, but really tasty, at least where Italians bying...
A few days passed like a dream, but these moments will remain for long time…
